CAREERS in fashion marketing, university degrees and entrepreneurial roles in the art industry await this year’s talented cohort of students from the foundation course in art design and media at Barrow Sixth Form College.

The six artists will present their final projects at a public exhibition at the Rating Lane campus in front of family, friends and college staff on June 16 from 4pm to 5.30pm.

They include Dylan Marwood who has secured a place at Leeds Beckett University to study a degree in media communication cultures and impressed with his band art concept including a stunning music album design. He joined sixth form from St Bernard’s and studied A Levels before progressing on to the foundation course.

Jasmine Jacques will also head to university to study fashion marketing at Manchester Metropolitan after focusing on vibrant, abstract T shirt designs for an online retail store for her project.

Ella Pearson, who took the prize for A Level art before continuing to study the foundation course, will set up her own business for art commissions and projects as will her course colleagues Jaiden Braithwaite and Dani Howson. Carrie Bundy, who crafted a floral calendar concept, has secured employment locally and will continue with her art in her spare time.

Nikki Conigliaro, subject leader for art and design/photography, said the students had created a superb final display with a wide range of styles, medias and creative concepts.

“This cohort have been very motivated to succeed and we think they will make great future leaders in the creative industries,” she said. “They have faced lots of challenges learning in the backdrop of a pandemic but they have moved through this, developed lots of resilience and supported each other to produce a fantastic set of portfolios.”

The Foundation Course in Art, Design and Media is open to anyone over 18 through to adult learners and the next intake is September 2022. Members of the public are invited to view the students’ work at the public exhibition next Thursday from 4pm. For more information, visit the website www.furness.ac.uk
