HOW did you spend your bank holiday with your family?

Here are some of the best places and activities to try next time you're on a family day out.

  • Brockhole on Windermere

The popular fun day activity centre located in the Lake District; this is an ideal day to spend for couples with children.

Alejandra Covarrubias Garcia said: "Very friendly staff and helpful. Booked a rowing boat for a very reasonable price and a lot of flexibility. It seems as a great place to go with kids too as they have a lot of activities."

  • Coniston Boating Centre

A day on the water is a must for those looking for adventure in the Lake District.

The Coniston Water centre offers up to six passengers a venture out on the surface, and they also allow dogs to come aboard.

Phil Lamond said: "Visited in April and hired a motor boat. We had a great time and staff were helpful and gave good advice. We didn't book in advance but I'd recommend that you should if you want to avoid disappointment because the Boating Center was very popular."

  • Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway

One of the longest narrow-gauge railways in England located in Ravenglass is home to the iconic Ratty.

The seven-mile-long trip offers 40 minutes of stunning views of the Lake District.

Anthony Malone said: "This was a great way to spend an afternoon after work. 40 minutes each way, seven miles of track, great scenery of the hills."

  • Grizedale Forest

The perfect destination for cycle trials, family walks and off-road biking.

Grizedale is a beautiful place and perfect for those care free days.

Erik Blackwood said: "A lot of trees down around Breasty Haw bridleway after Storm Arwen, but otherwise not too bad. Parksmoor descent access is clear now if a bit rutted and boggy from the big forestry machinery that's been clearing over the last few days. The views across Coniston to the old Man and Dow Crags are amazing."

  • Lakes Aquarium

The popular aquarium with freshwater and marine life, featuring an underwater otter tunnel and stingrays which kids will enjoy.

Located in Ulverston, this is one to visit next time you are looking for something different.

Jane Harrison said: "Great place to visit. Not huge but still plenty to look at. Accessible for disabled people like myself. The toilets are not inside the Aquarium but on the platform where the train goes from. Would be good to have more signage on the trackside to direct you to the Disabled toilet as there is only signage on the lake side at least that's all I could see. So, the disabled toilet is along from the gents at the very end of the building on the lake side. Reasonably priced."
