Barrow AFC's spending on agents rose by nearly £40,000 in the last year, new figures reveal.

Statistics published by the Football Association show the Bluebirds paid players’ representatives a total of £53,062 from February, 2 2021 to January 31, 2022.

That was up from £13,359 in the previous 12-month period.

Barrow's outlay on intermediaries was the 13th highest in League Two.

The figures covered deals done in last summer’s transfer window and during this January.

Some 13 deals done by the Bluebirds were included in the FA data.

Barrow's agent outlay had been the smallest in League Two for the 2020-21 period.

The latest figures cover last summer's recruitment following the appointment of Mark Cooper as manager, as well as the January deals he oversaw before his departure last month.

The highest spenders in Barrow's division were Bristol Rovers, with £119,817, with Hartlepool United the lowest with £10,174.

Barrow's fellow Cumbrians Carlisle United had the eighth highest outlay in League Two, with £60,001.

A total of £1,285,606 went to agents from League Two’s 24 clubs during the year.

Barrow's dealings in the 12-month period are listed by the Football Association.

They include ten new signings - those of Offrande Zanzala, Paul Farman, Tom White, Remeao Hutton, Josh Gordon, Mark Ellis, Joe Grayson, Jordan Stevens, Robbie Gotts and John Rooney.

New deals for Josh Kay, Patrick Brough and Luke James also feature.

Premier League clubs shelled out £272.6m on agents in the same period, with Manchester City the country’s highest spenders with £35m.

League One club Crewe Alexandra were the lowest spenders on agents in the Football League with £3,750.

National League leaders Stockport County, meanwhile, spent £131,692 on agents – a figure higher than every club in League Two and 13 League One.

Barrow have not commented on the figures.

The FA add: "The listed transactions involving each registered Intermediary between 02 February 2021 and 31 January 2022 do not necessarily relate directly to the total payment figure per club, as these payments may have been in relation to transactions that started before 02 February 2021."
