NEW glamping huts could be offered at a hotel if plans are approved.

The owners of The Clarkes Hotel in Barrow are hoping to bring six shepherd's huts to the site at Rampside.

Each of the huts would come with a decked seating area and the potential to hire a barbecue or hot tub.

The glamping huts would be placed on land opposite the hotel on Roa Island Road.

A statement submitted to Barrow Council said: "A hotel has been in existence in various forms on the current site since the early 19th century.

"The previous owner took over The Clarke's Hotel in 1998 after a period of
dereliction.

"Now under new ownership the intention is to offer an alternative form of accommodation for visitors to the area.

"The site is on the route of the Cumbrian Coastal Way and is ideally located for access to local tourist attractions and the wider area in general.

"The proposal is for the siting of no. shepherds hut style glamping units with
associated steps and decking areas.

"Each hut will measure approx. 4.90m x 2.20m, a typical internal layout and elevation is indicated on the submitted drawings although some variation on this theme may be considered.

"Each hut can be regarded as proving sleeping for two persons.

"Roof and wall finishes will be profiled metal cladding with neutral colours.

"The decking area will be low level and provide a seating area although the potential for hire of hot tub or BBQ equipment could be provided via the hotel.

"The huts will be provided with electricity and water supply."
