A KIND-hearted schoolboy has raised money for those facing hardship from Ukraine.

Seven-year-old Lucas Tomkinson, from Barrow, was watching the news on Friday night and became inquisitive after watching a segment involving Ukraine families and children.

His mum Lisa Corkan said: “He was asking questions like kids do - asking why they were leaving. I explained that they were having to leave their homes and their toys behind to go to a safe place.

“He said that it would be sad having to leave all your toys then he said it made him feel a bit sad.

“I didn’t want him to feel bad about it so I said he could raise some money to send to them so that they could maybe buy some new ones.”

Feeling inspired, he called up his nanny who baked him some cakes.

The Chetwynde School pupil spent his Saturday knocking on his neighbours doors to sell them cakes and managed to raise an impressive £50.

“I didn’t think for a minute he’d raise that much money,” said Lisa.

“He was amazed at that so he rang his nanny again and asked her to do some more cakes, by the end of Sunday he was at about £148 pound and I think he has made another £20 since.

“He is over the moon. He has arranged with the school to have a cake sale in a couple of weeks, getting his friends in his class to join in.

“I am so proud of him, he has been grinning like a Cheshire cat since.”

Lucas is delighted with his achievement.

He said: “We knocked on doors and they gave money to send to the Ukraine.

“Nanny baked the cakes.

“I am very proud of myself because I have raised £148.36 for Ukraine on Saturday and Sunday.

“I have also asked my teacher if I can do a cake sale in school to raise more money, she said yes in two weeks.”

The money will be donated to the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
