CONCERN has been raised that the ongoing crisis in Ukraine is causing a spike to fuel prices in the UK.

Fuel prices have been on the rise again as worries about how increased sanctions on Russia might affect the global oil supply.

Motorists have hit out after fuel prices rose by 11p per litre in just one day at the Shell garage in Barrow.

Prices for unleaded were as high as 156.9p at Shell on Friday, while their diesel was setting motorists back 164.9p per litre.

Prices on Saturday have risen to 167.9 per litre for petrol and 179.9 for diesel, rising by 11p in just one day.

This caused anger among drivers, who feel like increased home bills are compounding with high fuel prices to make the squeeze harder.

Fuel prices at the supermarkets were cheaper, while Shell in Ulverston was selling its fuel for 5-8p less than its Barrow counterpart.

On a trip around Furness we couldn't find fuel anywhere for less than 1.50p/litre.

Readers have raised their concern about the rising fuel costs, which one reader branded as 'pure greed'.

Mike Smith said: "Well let's see if prices come back down after the war, I bet not."

Alan Davis said: "War is always a huge money maker for big companies. The fuel in their tanks is what they bought when it was a much lower price, it's just pure greed."

Ricardo Wilding said: "Everyone still needs to fill their car up, yeah 25p more but no matter where you go its' still expensive.

"And to be honest I don't really care about the price because it isn't going to go back down, just top up and go."

Tony Moon said: "Shell has gone up again - boycott it."

Cath White said: "It won't stop at those prices either."
