THE front cover of a new book written by the founder of drug and alcohol rehabilitation organisation The Well has now been released with the actual book soon to follow.

Dave Higham will be looking into his own personal experience of addiction to reflect on how current systems in place are suited to dealing with the problem people have with drugs and alcohol.

The book is set to be released in the next couple of weeks – something Mr Higham is very much looking forward to.

In the book 'Rat hell to rat park, the core conditions for recovery" he delves into whether the judicial system, drug services and all other services involved in addiction rehabilitation are correct in their approaches and if they are knowledgeable enough to treat people effectively.

"I wanted to bring my experience and story into this whilst looking at the system," he said.

"I want to look at how people get there in the first place.

"This is not about looking downstream and asking how someone fell in, it is about going upstream and stopping them from falling in.

"I will be looking at myself and my own personal experience and using that to help answer these questions."

He believes the current system is only "putting a plaster over an open wound" and suggests that drugs and alcohol are only the solution to people's problems and treatment must go deeper to address the problems people really have.
