THE planned cost of a Covid memorial garden earmarked for Barrow has been revealed.

The project will honour the victims of the pandemic but remains in the early stages.

Earlier this month, Cllr Ann Thomson, leader of Barrow Borough Council, said Barrow Park had been identified as the probable location for the memorial.

She said it was to be a joint project between the borough council and Cumbria County Council (CCC).

A CCC spokesman said £10,000 in CCC funding for the project had been agreed by the county council's Barrow local committee.

When asked about funding from Barrow's local authority, a spokesman for the borough council said: "The project is county council-funded."

In an article published by The Mail on January 5, Cllr Thomson said: "I think it will probably be in a nice corner of the park and we'll plant some new trees and put in a couple of benches and things.

"We thought it would be a good idea.

"We haven't got to the finer details yet."

Cllr Thomson said the borough council wanted to set aside a quiet space where people could go to reflect.
