A RISING star is set to perform in an international production of a world-beating film.

Ben Barrow, of Ulverston, set off to Zurich this week to begin the first the first shows of Footloose, a musical adaptation of the 1984 drama.

The MAAG Music Halle in Zurich will play host to the cast for the next 18 days.

The show stars Darren Day, a mainstay in London's West End, as well as Jake Quickenden, of X Factor, I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! and Dancing on Ice fame.

It will begin touring the UK from the middle of next month before finishing in Dubai later this year.

It will visit the Blackpool Opera House from Monday, April 11 to Saturday, April 16.

Mr Barrow graduated from the Guildford School of Acting in 2019, and c-wrote a musical which premiered at the Chiswick Playhouse last summer.

The musical tells the story of the dance-loving teenager Ren MacCormack, who moves to the southern town of Bomont, where loud music and public dancing are prohibited for minors.

Ren MacCormack is looking for allies and plans to circumvent these regulations with a big party.

Based on the 1980s screen sensation which took the world by storm, Footloose sizzles with spirit, fun and the best in UK musical talent.

With cutting edge modern choreography, the producers of the show promise classic 80s hits including Holding Out for a Hero, Almost Paradise, Let’s Hear It For The Boy and of course the unforgettable title track Footloose.

Rehearsals began at the beginning of last month, and Mr Barrow will play Wes Warnicker in the show, as well as Male Onstage Swing.

The Blackpool Opera House will be the closest the tour comes to his home town of Ulverston with a capacity of 2,813.
