READERS have expressed their frustrations after Canadian chain Tim Hortons have withdrawn proposals to open a Barrow branch.

The chain had previously submitted plans for a new site in June.

The multinational fast food company is known for its fresh coffee and baked goods including doughnuts and already has nearly 5,000 outlets worldwide across 14 countries.

The chain was due to open a coffee shop and drive-thru in place of the former Pizza Hut restaurant in Hollywood Retail Park, which closed its doors in September after 22 years of trading.

Chris Myers said: "Bring back Pizza Hut and give the staff who lost their jobs them back."

Neil Mitchell said: "It would have been nice to see something other than Costa for the town."

Becky Young said: "What a joke, loads of people left without jobs and then they pull out."

Michael Ducie said: "Tim Hortons have pulled out, bet the landlord wishes he stuck with the Hut now."

Julie Macmillan Clarke said: "Was looking forward to it opening." John Wadsworth New said: "Open a drive thru charity shop instead then."

Funny me said: "Great another empty place to go to rot and look a mess."

Jimbo’s said: "Great location for a charity shop."

Blondie73 said: "Would make a good Sushi /Noodle bar." Howard Le Roy said: "But at least the rubbish will be in one place rather than spread all around the Dock Museum walk area."

YOUNG BLUE EYES said: "Best news all week for Barrow!"
