Man accused of possessing blade in public

A BARROW man is due to appear in court on Monday after he was allegedly found being in possession of a blade.

Dane Michael Armstrong, of Kent Street, has been charged with possession of a sharp pointed article in a public place after being accused of having a knife at Bargain Booze on Roose Road in Barrow on September 8, 2020.

The 20-year-old is due to appear at South Cumbria Magistrates Court.

'Abject disregard' - Banned motorist spotted behind the wheel just nine days disqualification

A MOTORIST who was spotted driving just nine days after being disqualified showed 'abject disregard', a court heard.

Ryan James Arrowsmith was recognised behind the wheel by a police officer who had previously arrested him for drug driving.

South Cumbria Magistrates' Court heard the 40-year-old was driving his car in Barrow on September 19.

Man who denied failing to provide specimen to police to face court

A MAN from Barrow is due to appear in court after denying allegations he refused to provide a specimen for police.

Ian Andrew McDonald, of Longway, has been charged with refusing to provide a specimen when driving as requested on October 8 in Barrow.

The 48-year-old denied the allegation at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court on October 25.

He is due to appear in court on November 8.

Teen was allegedly more than three times drink-drive limit

A TEENAGER from Barrow is due to appear in court charged with driving a vehicle when more then three times the drink-drive limit.

It is alleged Kai Miah drove a Vauxhall Corsa with 113 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of his breath. The legal limit is 35 micrograms in 100 millilitres of breath.

It is said the offence took place in Queen Street, Ulverston.

The alleged offence occurred on October 23, 2021.

Nineteen-year-old Miah, of School Street, is due to appear at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court, located in Barrow, on Monday, November 8.

Man downloaded indecent images of children as young as five 'to see how easy it was'

A SEX offender found with hundreds of indecent images of children as young as five has been sentenced.

Oliver Wear was found with more than 300 explicit images of children he had downloaded from the internet.

Preston Crown Court heard how police visited the 32-year-old's Barrow home after receiving information he had obtained the photos through an online file sharing network.

The defendant, of Friars Lane in Barrow, admitted possessing a total of 322 indecent images.

He also admitted breaching a sexual harm prevention order handed down in 2017 for possession of more indecent images.

Prison officer accused of relationship with inmate appears in court

A WOMAN from Barrow accused of having a romantic relationship with an inmate while serving as a prison officer has appeared in court.

Alisha Fallows has been charged with misconduct following the alleged relationship at HMP Lancaster Farms, a category C male prison.

The 23-year-old was said to have engaged in a relationship with the prisoner between November 3 2020 and February 14 2021.

It is said that while acting as a prison officer she ‘wilfully and without reasonable excuse or justification misconducted yourself in a way which amounted to an abuse of the public’s trust in the office holder by engaging in a relationship with a prisoner contrary to Common Law’.

'I'm going to kill you' - Man who subjected partner to 'vicious' attack is jailed

A MAN who submerged his partner's head in a deep puddle and told her he was going to kill her has been jailed.

Preston Crown Court heard how Barrow man Dean Richard Fawcett subjected his girlfriend to two 'vicious and prolonged' attacks that led to significant physical and psychological damage.

The court was told that the victim had since experienced flashbacks to the attacks that made her vomit and was seeking medical help for post-traumatic stress disorder.

Fawcett previously admitted two counts of causing actual bodily harm to the victim following the assaults, which took place in the defendant's home and in a cemetery.

The 41-year-old appeared at the court to be sentenced.

Barry Bennell abuse victim heard crying for help, court told

A man who was a promising schoolboy footballer has told a judge how he heard a child crying for help while being abused by paedophile former coach Barry Bennell during a stay at a Butlin’s holiday camp decades ago.

He told Mr Justice Johnson he heard the boy, who was with Bennell in a neighbouring room, crying: “Leave me alone.”

The man said he had also been abused by Bennell, who is now serving a jail term after being convicted of child sex crimes, and suggested he had been used as a decoy to lure the other boy.

The man was giving evidence at a High Court trial in London on Friday.

He is one of eight men, now in their 40s and 50s, who have made damages claims against Manchester City.
