READERS have had their say after bank bosses confirmed the closure of one of the last remaining banks in Ulverston.

Barclays in County Square will shut for the final time next year, following a ‘sustained fall’ in branch visits.

The bank’s closure is the third bank to close its doors in Ulverston in the past five years, after HSBC and Natwest shut in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

Barclays’ impending closure means Lloyds and Furness Building Society will be the only two remaining banks in Ulverston.

The Ulverston branch will close its doors on January 21.

Now you only have a counter open till 2pm everything else is machines. The machines don't like your notes unless they are pristine condition. Poor service nowadays."

Sam Atkinson said: "Sad news it’s been shut a lot in the last 18 months due to the pandemic and a lot of the users will have been people not venturing out so the footfall figures are not exactly comparable to previous years also a lot of businesses such as banks need to adjust their hours to cater for people work during the day they ran limited hours after lockdown and I could never find my bank open when I could go."
