READERS have had their say on whether they think the country will go into a fourth lockdown, following health secretary Sajid Javid’s Downing Street press conference amid rising Covid cases.

During the briefing Mr Javid said the Government has no current plans to implement its Plan B- the reintroduction of some social distancing measures- for tackling coronavirus, adding that ministers do not believe the pressures on the NHS are unsustainable.

But he repeated his warning that Covid-19 cases could reach 100,000 a day as the country enters a challenging winter period.

He said the UK was seeing "greater pressure" on the NHS but the Government will "do what it takes to make sure that this pressure doesn't become unsustainable, and that we don't allow the NHS to become overwhelmed."

Mr Javid urged people to have their vaccines, including Covid boosters and jabs for flu, and said: "If we all play our part, then we can give ourselves the best possible chance in this race, get through this winter, and enjoy Christmas with our loved ones."

Mark said: “I can see the UK going back into lockdown some rules should have stayed in place like wearing a mask when going into shops and on public transport and should have kept social distancing.”

Another reader replied: “Absolutely! It's such a simple thing to do. I'm personally sick of the 'It's ok I've been jabbed' or 'I've already had it' excuse for not wearing one. It can still be transmitted, really don't understand the mentality and selfishness of some especially when they don't keep their flipping distance!”

Orangevanman added: “But those who refuse to have a jab are the ones more likely to pass it on or become a victim themselves.”

Carl Gaitskell said: “No as the public won't stand for it and the economy won't be able to handle it. I can see riots up and down the country if they try and lock us down again.”

Pat Shaw said: “Country can't afford it.”

Michael Vandom said: “Probably! Get vaccinated! Get jabbed no more lockdowns! Shame!”
