A BARROW businesswoman's fight for free menopause treatment has gained the support of the MP.

Fiona Cloherty is campaigning for a new law which would make hormone replacement therapy (HRT) free in England.

The 53-year-old argues that Viagra is currently free for men - so why not HRT.

Mrs Cloherty, who is an accredited menopause teacher herself, has gained the support of Barrow MP Simon Fell who has written to the Department of Health and Social Care about the issue.

He said: "Fiona is clearly passionate about this subject.

"There’s good body of evidence on the benefits of widening access to HRT for women going through the menopause.

"The Government is actually consulting on this at the moment having received over 100,000 responses to a consultation on improving support given to women as part of the Women’s Health Strategy.

"I look forward to that strategy being published, and to working with Fiona and other constituents to inform the policy on access to HRT, improving knowledge, and wider support too."

Campaigners are heading to Parliament Square in London tomorrow before the second reading of the Menopause Bill to demand free prescriptions for hormone replacement therapy in England.
