A BARROW bodybuilder found great success after recently competing in the PCA British Finals in Birmingham.

Becka Allison, 37, has lived in Barrow for four years and began competing in bodybuilding competitions in 2019 after being introduced to the sport by her partner Steven Thompson.

On October 16, she was placed third in the British Finals held at Birmingham Town Hall

Becka said: “I took part in a show in Birmingham four weeks ago to qualify for the British Finals and was able to get through.

“It was a line up of 19 girls from all over the UK and it was a great experience.

“I entered into the athletic figure category on the Saturday.

“The first time I competed was back in 2019 when I only did the toned figure category.

“I had to step up in training to compete. It meant more muscle, doing harder training and there are higher expectations than toned figure.

“I’m a bit weary after it but it was a good day.

“I did get invited to return and compete at the finals.

“I hadn’t competed with the girls I met in Birmingham. Usually, you know who you might be against but there were a lot of new people there.

“Working in lockdown was difficult so I had to push myself a lot more.

“I stuck to my training plan and just tried to work hard every day.

“I was really lucky because the owner of my gym gave me some equipment to workout at home. An exercise bike, some dumbbells, and an Olympic barbell.

“I’m so grateful to Stan Dewhurst for all he’s done to help me.

“I’m also really grateful to my coach Wendy McCready who is one of the longest serving IFBB pros out there and is one of the best.

“She did a lot of stuff online during lockdown.

“I competed for the first time in 2019 and eventually ended competing with Team GB.

“Before I started bodybuilding, I suffered a lot through anxiety and depression. But since joining the gym and following the diet and structure my confidence shot up and I felt like I was becoming a better person.

“My advice if anyone is going through what I did get yourself to the gym. It will help in so many ways.”

Becka is now training for her next competition which will take place in March.
