A MUNDANE announcement by a bus company on Monday stirred up a lot of anger.

'What a complete joke' sums up the response of the community to the unavailability of buses in Barrow on Monday.

Bus services in Barrow were disrupted due to staff unavailability.

The 4.30pm and 5.45pm service 1 buses from Furness General Hospital did not operate on Monday, a Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire spokesman said.

The 5.05pm bus from Biggar Bank did not operate.

There was also disruption to service 3. From Newbarns, the 11am, noon, 1pm, 2pm, 4pm and 5pm buses did not operate.

From Ormsgill, the 8.30am, 9.30am, 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm,. 3.30pm, 4.30pm and 5.30pm buses did not operate.

Tony Moon said: "Its just been on the news bus drivers are switching to HGV better pay - you can't blame them."

"Some bus drivers hold HGV licenses and have left for haulage jobs.

"5000 HGV visas granted 20 taken up so far that went well, maybe it's not oven ready like all those trade deals that never appeared."
