BARROW Raiders have again been praised by the community for putting on an event.

Thousands of people attended town's Oktoberfest ready to drink and party the night away with traditional German food, beer and music.

Party-goers of all ages attended The Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium, Barrow over the weekend in traditional German fancy dress, ready to get the night started with lots of drinking and dancing.

Thumbsup13 said: "Brilliant event, well done everyone at the raiders for organising a fantastic event. Great atmosphere and bands."

Mike Wilson said: "Well done for thinking outside the box & putting on many varied events for the community to enjoy locally."

The three day event saw Oom-pah bands, German food stalls, as well as the traditional German beer providing an excellent day for all under marquees at the stadium.

Events director Jack Fawcett was beaming with pride after seeing the creation he pulled off on the Friday.

He said: “The festival has gone better than expected. It’s been really wild.

“It’s great to see everyone in the town getting behind it.

“Seeing people having a laugh and dancing around with the first bit of freedom in a long time is great."

Adele Neale said: "Fantastic festival, cannot wait for day three, only positive and happy vibes all day and night, so great to see so many people enjoying themselves, dressing up and supporting the town's rugby league club - just brilliant."

However, some questions the drinks of choice on offer at the event.

Barrow Insider said: "It looks like they've got cans of Strongbow. What is the point of going to a German beer festival and drinking Strongbow?"

Read my lips said: "German beer festival: blackcurrant strongbow and corona. The irony of ironies."
