AUDIENCE members were stunned after an acclaimed comedian made a surprise appearance at a stand-up show.

Ticket-holders were treated to a special performance at the Beggar's Theatre in Millom on Saturday when television star Sarah Millican turned up to try out some new material.

Theatre-goers had turned up to watch sell-out sensation Gary Delaney perform his new tour ‘Gary in Punderland’.

However, unsuspecting to them, Delaney brought his wife and award-winning comedian Sarah Millican on stage to test out some of her never-before-seen material.

Jakki Moore, of the Beggar's Theatre in Millom, said audience members were 'buzzing' to have two acclaimed comedians perform on stage.

She said: "I only found out just before that Gary was going to bring Sarah on stage. He told me she had planned to try out some new material on the audience which went down really well.

"Sarah was absolutely lovely - we chatted for a bit after she was on stage."

The television star treated 130 shocked audience members to 20 minutes of new material.

Ms Moore said: "It was great for Beggar's that we got to experience some of Sarah's new material. We're always quite lucky in that we get some good names here.

"Sarah and Gary were both brilliant. It was a really good night.

"Everyone really enjoyed it and were buzzing to see Sarah on stage.

"She's just really lovely, she made sure to thank everyone for being there and thanked everyone on social media too.

"It was Sarah's first time at the Beggar's and we'd love her to come back. Everyone who comes here, comes back - Omid Djalili is coming back for the fourth time next month!"

Sarah took to social media to gush about her surprise Millom debut, writing: "Had a lovely time jumping on to do a short spot of new jokes at Gary Delaney's show in Millom tonight. Loved it."

It was Sarah's second trip touring Cumbria's comedy circuit this year after the Geordie performed a sold-out show at The Forum in August as part of her Bobby Dazzler tour.
