PLANS to change the opening hours of a community hub to allow for more bookings have been approved.

Barrow Island Community Sports Trust asked council bosses to allow the hub at Cavendish Park to open later.

Trust bosses said they wanted to be open between 7am and 1am between Monday and Saturday and until midnight on Sunday after they received a number of inquiries for functions including birthdays and weddings.

Extending opening hours would allow more time for cleaning and set up, plans submitted for the change said.

The council has now approved the plans.

Work on the community centre and changing rooms facility started in 2017 after plans were years in the pipeline.

It opened in 2018 with an event attended by hundreds of people.

Barrow Island Community Sports Trust, made up from a partnership of local sport clubs and organisations, is the leaseholder of Cavendish Park, while Barrow Borough Council is the landowner.
