BARROW Borough Council is asking the public to show love for town's market this Autumn during a national campaign.

The National Local Market Campaign returns this Saturday, lasting until October 30.

As part of the campaign, the council is encouraging shoppers to show appreciation for Barrow Market.

A Barrow Borough Council spokesman said: "Britain’s largest celebration of markets is returning to highlight the role markets play at the heart of local communities and economies.

"Markets have had to adapt to overcome the difficulties of the last 18 months by providing new services such as e-commerce and delivery and it is evident that a rediscovery of their importance for local communities and our high streets has begun.

"Come along and support Barrow Market Hall - open every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 9am - 5pm. There's so much variety to browse and buy."

During the celebratory fortnight there will be an interactive and continually evolving exhibition inside Barrow Indoor Market Hall.

Members of the public are asked to bring in their old photos, memorabilia, stories, books, postcards - or anything Barrow related - to Stalls 106/108 and 93/99/105, opposite The Mall entrance.

The unique exhibition has been put together by Jan and Chris from the Caravan Gallery.

A spokesman for Barrow Market Hall said: "Spend some time browsing through the growing collection, step back in time and share your memories and enjoy the present time too."

The Lost Shops of Duke Street stall will also be at the market this Saturday, collecting the memories of the street, based at the Portland Walk entrance of the market hall.
