THE COMMUNITY have voiced frustrations after the council vowed to fix an overgrown path.

The path that runs adjacent to Mill Beck and goes past Park House Farm is a popular route for walkers in Barrow that has become overgrown and inaccessible for wheelchair users and people with prams.

The council have promised to cut it back, but others have expressed that more should be done.

Fed Up Pedestrian said: "It's like that in a lot of places, as a walker it isn't easy to use a lot of public footpaths, as they're all overgrown or have dog crap everywhere."

Bob Pointing said: "In wet weather the section of the path from Mill Brow to Furness Abbey gets completely blocked with mud and water where it goes under the railway.

"The cause is mud that came down originally from the Abbey Heights/Oakmere Homes development that is now blocking the gullies under the railway. Many walkers have to turn back at this point rather than going on to the Abbey, but those who do persevere have to cross a field, climb over the ramparts to a river bridge and then cross the railway line by foot.

"It's a very difficult route for elderly walkers or those with large dogs and impossible for anyone in a wheelchair, although I have seen (and helped!) people with prams trying to get over the 2 metre high stone ramparts.

Paul White said: "What about sorting the path down the Old Line - Rampside to Barrow - very overgrown and used by lots of walkers and cyclists."

Christine Barnes said: "They could do with sorting the stag Bank path up to, they provide these lovely places then just leave them to deteriorate beyond use!"

Philip Thompson said: "To be fair I live in Newcastle upon Tyne have done for a few years.

"This year has to be the worse with nothing getting done e.g cutting the grass etc, so I’m guessing it everywhere in England."
