"GREAT way to help ruin a lovely town."

That was the opinion of one reader who remained unimpressed by the soon-to-be opened McDonald's at Ulverston.

Construction work on the restaurant and drive-through site at Oubas Hill, which is scheduled to open in early December, is ongoing.

But a Facebook user, named Alastair Macdonald Re, said the eatery would 'ruin' Ulverston.

He said it would lead to 'more litter by lazy idiots' and the food would help create 'strain on the NHS'.

Other people on Facebook also expressed concerns.

Pam Pearson said: "Just wait for all the extra litter and seagulls."

Pat Chorley said: "Blot on the landscape, so not needed."

Jim Macdiarmid said: "More junk food to top up a fat nation."

Stephen Hewitt said: "If people want it, they will use it.

"If they don't like it or support it, then it will fail and close down."

However, Scott Aaron Nattrass was more supportive, saying: "Miserable idiots, you lot are the sort of people that complain about these things, but you will all use this restaurant anyway."

The new McDonald's is expected to create at least 65 full- and part-time jobs.

A McDonald's spokesman said 'at least three litter patrols a day' would be carried out by the restaurant team.

"All of our restaurant crew members are trained in how to dispose of litter effectively and provided with a litter patrol route to follow which includes details of any potential litter hotspots," he said.

"Large bins will also be located outside of our restaurant for customers to use to dispose of any litter."
