AN APPLICATION to change the use of an outbuilding into a residential dwelling has been refused as it may have a "detrimental impact on the traditional character of the building".
The site comprises a traditional stone barn located within the small settlement of Staveley-in-Cartmel. The barn is a two storey structure, comprised of solid stone masonry and a slate roof.
The applicant has confirmed that the barn is currently used for domestic storage associated with their properties - a residence and a holiday let at 1-2 Lane Cottages.
The proposed dwelling would comprise three bedrooms over two levels and a study at mezzanine level.
A planning report from the Lake District National Park Authority said: "The proposed development fails to satisfy the relevant development plan policies and would result in a detrimental impact on the traditional character of the building and the appearance and character of the settlement. The proposal should be refused."
