THE ‘love for the Lake District’ has been poured into a new comprehensive guide.

Lakes, Fells, Pubs & Things has been written by Martin Gough, a musician who turned to writing during the coronavirus pandemic.

Martin has a soft spot for the area, travelling to the Lakes for 35 years.

He said: “It’s an area that I love and visit frequently. When lockdown was lifted last September I came up to the lakes for five weeks touring around in my camper van.

“It’s something that I wanted to do for years but I never had the time, but time had presented itself to me in lockdown.”

The book includes 350 pages of valuable information and hundreds of stunning colour photos by Rob Knowles and guests.

It covers topics such as the best pubs, hotels, activities, people, sheep and maps of the area.

The foreword was written by climbing legend Alan Hinkes OBE.

Mr Gough said: “The book is very in-depth, it’s arguably the most comprehensive guide that I have seen out there.

“I live on the coast in North Yorkshire and in lockdown I’d walk on the beach for two or three hours in the morning, then I’d come back and write for six hours every day, seven days a week, and this is what has come of it.

“The book has stunning pictures in there, there’s wonderful colour photos every other page. it’s phenomenal really.

“It’s not about the money, it’s about putting my love of the Lake District out there. If I’m sat there having a beer and somebody pulls my book out of their bag, I’d buy them a pint!

“I put a lot of me in the book, for example, I said when I was in this great pub I hit my head off the fire place so beware - it’s full of anecdotes.”

Lakes, Fells, Pubs & Things will be initially available in A5 Landscape and then as an e-book with even more content.
