A COUNCIL has revealed when a raft of new electric car charging points are due to be installed.

Barrow Council is planning to install 18 charging points for electric vehicles in a push to become carbon neutral.

Barrow has been one of the least-served areas for owners of electric cars to charge their vehicles.

Councillor Therese Assouad, the authority's lead member for climate emergency, said: "We committed to realising our ambition for the borough to become carbon neutral by 2037 or sooner as part of our contribution towards global climate repair.

"Low Carbon Barrow is a programme of exciting projects to help us to reach that goal.

"This includes the installation of 18 electric vehicle charging points to make sure we have the right infrastructure in place to enable motorists to make the switch to electric cars.

"We hope these points will be installed by February next year."

According to the council Low Carbon Barrow is a £2m investment in a range of low carbon projects across Barrow funded by the UK European Structural and Investment Fund and the Cumbria LEP. The council unveiled its Low Carbon Barrow Action Plan in 2019.
