A SOUTH Lakeland author has released a memoir and will be signing books during an event at a supermarket next month.

Hope by Anne Hood charts Ms Hood's life growing up in Leeds during the 1960s as well as the effect her mother's schizophrenia had on the family.

It also charts Ms Hood's return to education when she was in her 40s with four children.

Poet and novelist Caroline Gilfillan described Ms Hood's book as a 'a tender, truthful memoir, full of love and hope'.

Ms Hood herself said it was a 'story of hope against all odds'.

Ms Hood will be signing copies of the book at Booths in Ulverston next month.

The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 11.

The book-signing session will begin at 9am and run until 5pm.
