A YELLOW weather warning for thunderstorms covering Cumbria has been issued.
The Met Office is warning of flooding and transport disruption over the next few days.
Stormy weather is due to follow the lofty temperatures experienced in the county over the past week.
A yellow warning is in place for the county and the North West from 9am on Tuesday to 6am on Wednesday.
A Met Office spokesman said: "Thunderstorms and heavy rain may lead to flooding and transport disruption.
"Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and possibly some road closures.
"Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.
"There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater or lightning strikes."
The Met Office has issued advice on what to do during thunder and lightning.
It said telephone lines can conduct electricity so try to avoid using the landline, unless in an emergency.
If outside avoid water and find a low-lying open place that is a safe distance from trees, poles or metal objects.
