A DALTON resident says he was offered £1.40 in compensation from network provider Three after complaining about its poor coverage in the town.

Brian Cohan, says he cannot currently use 3G on his phone and his internet speed has dropped from 50 Mbps to 0.25 Mbps whilst Three repairs its network in Dalton.

The 57-year-old currently pays Three around £80-a-month, which includes his Wi-Fi and phone bills, and says he was left angered by the company when they proposed the compensation offer on the phone.

Brian said: "I wasn’t asking for compensation, I wasn’t upset, I just wanted to know when the service will be turned back on.

"I have got four accounts with Three and they offered me £1.40 in compensation for eight days of no service.

"£1.40 insulted me, I was not happy – it is not even half of a cup of Costa Coffee."

Brian, who has lived in Dalton for 20 years, says the network problems started on July 12, and has led to his 20-year-old son, Stuart, a web designer, losing hundreds of pounds.

He has also criticised Three for not providing clear answers when speaking on the phone and believes they have treated him like an ‘idiot’.

"I have phoned up three times and every time they have told me it will be turned back on, but each time it hasn’t," Brian began.

"They have told me different stories every time.

"I am not angry, I just wanted answers - they have treated me as an idiot.

"For me it is a tremendous problem, but for my son his world is falling apart.

"Youngsters do everything online, it is their entertainment and it is all gone."

Three have said they are sorry about the disruption to Brian and fellow customers and will be making a goodwill gesture to all of them when the issue is resolved.

A spokesperson said: "Unfortunately, due to ongoing issues, a mast in this postcode is offline at the moment. We are currently working on getting this back up and running. We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to customers who have been impacted.”
