GREGGS has confirmed that their stores in Barrow will remain open following concern due to two Blackburn branches closing.

The two outlets on Dalton Road in the town centre are there to stay and a spokesman for Greggs said this area was doing well and the company is looking to expand in the near future due to success in certain areas.

The spokesman said the stores closing in Blackburn shut because they were ageing and it is a natural part of shop strategy. Greggs said in May that sales had increased in the first few weeks since non-essential trading had resumed in April, compared to the same period in 2019.

An increase in delivery sales during lockdown also helped the company to navigate the pandemic crisis, with 800 branches across the country offering deliveries. However, Greggs management warned that returning to pre-pandemic profits would be conditional on restrictions continuing to ease.
