A MOUNTAIN rescuer is close to hitting her fundraiser's target.

Janice Hamilton began her 268-mile walking challenge across Pennine Way in May to raise funds for Coniston Mountain Rescue Team (CMRT) and Animal Rescue Cumbria.

The funds will go towards a new mountain rescue base in Coniston.

Janice, who is an assistant leader at CMRT has raised £3670 as of Monday evening, with her goal being £3750.

So far, Janice has walked up and over Great Dun Fell and Cross Fell, the highest summit in the Pennines at 2929ft.

With Janice nearing her target, CMRT said: "Thank you to everyone who is following and supporting her efforts to raise funds for Animal Rescue Cumbria and Coniston Mountain Rescue Team. There is still time to donate!"
