POLICE have warned residents of the dangers of romance fraud and urged those who have concern to seek advice.

Romance scams involve people being duped into sending money to criminals who go to great lengths to gain their trust and convince them that they are in a genuine relationship.

South Lakes Police said on Twitter: "Romance fraud is real and can cost victims thousands.

"Typically growing from an online connection, suspects play on the victims good nature and move on to request money. If you have concerns surrounding this please contact 101 for more information."

Action Fraud say they use language to manipulate, persuade and exploit so that requests for money do not raise alarm bells. You can report this to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or via actionfraud.police.uk.
