A PROLIFIC offender has been jailed again.

Nathan Lee Stephen Cooper was put behind bars after he caused damage to a man's window and door.

The 22-year-old, a serving prisoner was handed more time in jail when he was sentenced at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court

The defendant pleaded guilty to criminal damage when he appear in court via video link.

The court heard that Cooper damaged and window and a door belonging to Michael Walmsley.

The incident happened in Ulverston on May 6.

The court jailed Cooper, of Low White Close in Barrow, for seven days.

Magistrates, led by chair of the bench Mike Halshaw, also ordered Cooper to pay a £128 surcharge to fund victim services.

According to court records, no compensation was ordered because insufficient details were provided by the prosecution.

He was sentenced to more jail time only a week after he was handed 16 weeks behind bars for assaulting two police officers and causing criminal damage to a police cell and four weeks for stealing gin from a supermarket.

Magistrates were told how Cooper was detained by police after stealing gin from Booths in Ulverston.

He later ‘kicked off’ and struck out at one officer and spat at another.

Following his arrest for stealing the alcohol, the defendant was taken to hospital.

Prosecutor Peter Kelly said: "He’s arrested and was in the care of the paramedics,” the prosecutor said.

“It seems the police were supervising his stay at the hospital.

“It seems the defendant has been aggressive and confrontational with the police, striking out at PC Powell.

“It seems he punched PC Powell in his body armour causing a scratch.

Mr Kelly said officers then placed a spit hood on Cooper and taken into custody at Barrow Police Station.

“He was seen at one point to open a wound in his hand and smear blood across the cell walls,” he said.

“He also urinated on the floor and threw food around the cell.”

The court heard Cooper was then taken to hospital for treatment of the wound before being returned to the police station.

Magistrates were told that Cooper had a record of 17 offences against the person, including several police assaults.

The defendant was jailed for 14 weeks in November 2020 after he breached a restraining order for the 12th time.

In 2019 has was sent back to prison within two days of release.
