A SPATE of burglaries in Barrow has been branded 'scandalous' as officers search for witnesses.

A number of properties in Barrow were targeted last week, leading police to open several investigations.

A home in Dalton Lane was burgled at approximately 11am on Wednesday.

Police are searching for a man described as white, aged in his mid-40s, approximately 5ft 6 inches tall, of stocky build with short receding light hair.

He was also seen carrying a small cardboard box at the time of the burglary.

The man was wearing dark trousers and a light coloured shirt, possibly blue.

Police would like to speak to this man or anyone who witnessed him in the area of Dalton Lane between 11am and 12pm on Wednesday.

Officers are also searching for a pair of teenage men 'fleeing the scene' after a burglary in Clifford Street.

Police are investigating the burglary which occurred on Monday May 3 at approximately 10pm.

Two teenage men were witnessed fleeing from the scene on foot.

Both men were wearing dark clothing and one of the teenagers was carrying a white bin liner, police have said.

Officers are also investigating a burglary which occurred at a home in Helm Road, Bowness.

The incident took place sometime between the evening of May 6 and 8am on May 7.

Electrical items from within the property have been stolen.

Bill McEwan, Barrow Borough Councillor, described the spate of burglaries as 'absolutely scandalous'.

"People have enough to deal with because of the pandemic without having to worry about being burgled," he said.

"We're all going through hard times at the moment and it's really sad to see this sort of behaviour is happening.

"It's absolutely scandalous.

"Please make sure your property is safe and secure and remain wary."
