A WOMAN has been handed a £199 fine by magistrates.
Chelsea Shaw, of Harrel Lane, Barrow, was hit with the financial penalty after pleading guilty to possession of a Class C drug at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
On Saturday 3 April, Shaw, 30, was stopped by Cumbria Police.
Officers found nine tablets of Diazepam in her possession.
In an interview with police, Shaw explained to officers that she was unaware that the drug was illegal.
The court heard that Shaw had a past history of using drugs including heroin.
Magistrates ordered the destruction of the Diazepam tablets in addition to imposing the fine.
Shaw’s last conviction was in 2019 for another drug matter.
