A SIGNED Barrow AFC shirt is being raffled out to help families with children with life limiting illnesses.

Dad Jeffrey Holt was given the shirt as a gift but decided instead to auction it off for Derian House Children’s Hospice in Chorley which provides respite for families and children.

The shirt, signed by the current Barrow team, was donated to Mr Holt by striker Scott Quigley and coach Craig Rutherford.

Derian House has been instrumental in helping Mr Holt and his family cope with looking after his son Jasper who has mitochondrial disease, among other health conditions.

Mr Holt said: “Craig is someone who has helped me in past deal with mental health side of the changes in our life since having my son Jasper.

"Craig recently gave me the shirt signed by players as I used to collect football shirts before I was a carer for my son, so it was special gift. But I decided with their permission to try and raise money for Derian House Children’s Hospice who help us as a family with respite and will eventually help with end-of-life care for my son.

“It’s an amazing place full of amazing people who genuinely care for families like ours. They provide vital services to help, particularly for us it gives us time to do other things with our other kids that Jasper can’t partake in, like playing in sand at beach or going swimming or just doing things others take for granted.”

“Derian House provides such a brilliant service and families all across south Cumbria and Lancashire benefit from their sensitivity and understanding, and I think that it’s well worth a £2.50 donation.”
