FLY-TIPPING and littering has been condemned after top tourist sites have been blighted with sofas and human excrement.

A sofa has been dumped on Bardsea Beach much to the irritation of many residents in the Ulverston area, including the town’s mayor Cllr Sharon Webster.

Cllr Webster has been fighting this issue over the past few months and identified Bardsea and Ford Park, where human excrement had been discovered, as two particularly bad areas.

“This issue is driving me mad, and I keep putting notices out for people to take their rubbish home with them,” she said.

“It is not just Bardsea with this issue, Ford Park has been awash with rubbish and even human waste has been found.

“The problem with Bardsea is people taking their fish and chips then leaving their rubbish, now a sofa has been left there.

“Not sure whether it is someone who has had a party and taken it to sit on or whether it is just fly-tipping.

“I am not sure what is going on with people at the moment as this is a continuous problem. If they keep doing this there will be nowhere nice left to go.”

She urged all visitors to take their household waste to the tip and take their rubbish home.
