FIREFIGHTERS have blasted vandals after dealing with a string of incidents last night.

A spokesman for Barrow Firestation said: "This is not acceptable.

"Another deliberate and mindless act down at Cavendish Dock this evening (yesterday) shortly after 7pm, followed by a smaller incident closer to Salthouse Mills, attended by Walney Fire Station.

"Just before 11pm a further call to a ‘Fire in the Open’ to the rear of Iceland off Hindpool Road."

It is believed that youths are behind the incident, with youths seen running from the area when confronted by members of the public in all three incidents.

The spokesman said: "Vandalism and anti-social behaviour like this takes us away from attending more serious incidents and with reference to the fire at the rear of Iceland, could have resulted in a larger commercial fire if it had not been discovered so quickly.

"Barrow has seen a sharp increase in deliberate/nuisance fires, since the start of the good weather .

"Please act responsibilbly and not put lives at risk."
