A CUMBRIA care home has celebrated its first ever wedding.

Cartmel Grange Care Home hosted the marriage of Dr Scott Wallace Garry and Mandy Keane earlier this month.

The happy couple were married by a registrar and their three daughters were in attendance – along with the family’s three dogs.

Dr Garry said: “It was great, a great day. It was so special to get married surrounded by my family, including our dogs Skye, Coco, and Dan.”

The groom wore a traditional kilt and the bride a matching shawl to celebrate their special day. The wedding was the first ever to take place at the care home, and special measures were followed to ensure the day was Covid safe.

A spokesperson for the home said: “We are so happy that we were able to hold the wedding here at the home.

“Covid measures were followed and everyone was swabbed before the ceremony. “But despite the difficulties with Covid it was a lovely day and it was fantastic that this was able to take place within the home.

“The newlyweds were able  to spend some extra time together after the wedding which was wonderful, especially after all the recent restrictions.”

Dr Scott Wallace Garry lived in the Lancaster area before coming to live in the Grange-over-Sands care home.

Being able to host the wedding under special circumstances was a great boost for the home. Despite never hosting a wedding before, it was delighted that the day was such a success.

Under current government Covid guidelines, every care home resident can nominate up to two named visitors who can attend regular visits.

New measures to relax visiting rules in care homes are set to be announced by the government on May 17. Officials said: “Our aim is that by the summer, care home visiting will feel as relaxed and normal as possible.”
