ONE dedicated Bluebird’s fan was treated to a surprise meeting with one of his heroes.

Jeff Holt was welcomed to the Barrow Raider’s ground on the pretence of meeting Community Trust Manager Craig Rutherford to discuss an upcoming health and wellbeing project.

However he actually got presented with a voucher for a meal at The Dunes Hotel for him and wife, as well as some treats for his children.

He was then surprised by a FaceTime with Barrow’s top scorer Scott Quigley to say that the Club were giving him a complimentary season ticket for 2021/22.

Jeff and his wife had to give up work to care full time for his young son.

He had no idea what he was being treated to and was delighted by it.

Following his call with Quigley, Jeff said: “It was a massive surprise, but I’m delighted.

“My life is so full of care for him and sleepless nights that coming to the football is the only time I really get to myself.

“That ninety minutes is just invaluable to me and it’s something I have really struggled with not having over the last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.”

During a recent Team Talk session with the club he opened up about how important football and Barrow AFC was for him.

The past twelve months have proven particularly trying for fans who are unable to attend games under the pandemic restrictions.

His surprise was part of AFC's celebration of the English Football League’s Day of Action.

During the course of the day, all 72 clubs shared the impact they have had on their local communities over the course of the previous year and how they planned to continue doing so moving forward.

To mark the EFL’s occasion, clubs across the country celebrate the links they have forged with their fans and the town’s people.
