Barrow MP Simon Fell believes 'Covid passports' are unnecessary.
Despite Prime Minister Boris Johnson providing his backing to the scheme, Mr Fell said the country's vaccination programme should be enough to restore normality.
Mr Fell said: "Personally, I don’t believe that this certification is necessary.
"By the end of July, every adult and vulnerable person in the UK will have received their jab.
"The risk of Covid, therefore, will have dropped substantially.
"My view is that we should open up society at that stage and allow people to make their own choices about the risk that they are prepared to take in living their lives."
The Covid status certification is understood to cover whether an individual has received a vaccine, produced a negative test or recovered from the deadly virus in the last six months.
