FOUR new cases of coronavirus were recorded in Barrow on Sunday, according to the latest data made available by Public Health England.

The data, updated at 4pm yesterday, showed that the four positive cases in Barrow, as well as one in South Lakeland, were among 117 new cases recorded in Cumbria in the week ending March 28.

Between March 29 and April 4, 18 people had a confirmed positive test result in Barrow, down 10 per cent compared to the previous seven days.

Two people with coronavirus went into a University of Morecambe Bay Trust hospital on March 28. Between March 22 and March 28, 12 people went into a UHMBT hospital with coronavirus.

This shows a decrease of 45.5 per cent compared to the previous seven days.

There were 22 patients in hospital with coronavirus on March 30, with one coronavirus patient on a mechanical ventilator according to Public Health data.

There were no deaths in Barrow within 28 days of a positive test for coronavirus reported on April 4 or in the seven days prior.

Across the UK, the daily number of people who tested positive for the virus was 2,297.

The number who tested positive in the UK over the last seven days totalled 26,347 – a 29.7 per cent drop on the seven days prior.

Across the UK the daily number of deaths reported yesterday, within 28 days of a positive test, was 10, while 245 deaths were reported in the UK in the week prior to April 4, a decrease of 43.9 per cent on the prior seven day period.

According to the data, up to and including Saturday, 31,523,010 people across the UK had received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

A further 5,381,745 of the population have had their second dose of the vaccine administered.

Across the UK, 273 people with coronavirus went into hospital on March 28, with 2,245 admitted between March 22 and March 28, a fall of 23.4 per cent compared to the previous seven days.

There were 3,536 patients in hospital with coronavirus on April 1, 517 of them on a mechanical ventilator.
