AGE UK Barrow and District are launching a new project to support digital inclusion.

It aims to help older adults engage with digital technology and use it to reduce social isolation.

The Digital Inclusion Project is open to people around Furness.

It includes online sessions for elderly residents, with an online breakfast club currently running every Monday from 10:00am until midday.

There are also singing and exercise sessions available too.

If needed, Age UK can loan out a number of tablets to residents to help them access the internet and have a team of digital champions ready to help guide them.

The organisation is also aiming to team up with fellow firms to build up a library of resources that can protect users against the likes of scamming.

Shaun Blezard Age UK Barrow & District’s Digital Activities Manager said: "As more of our lives are being conducted online we need to make sure no one is left behind. Nearly 80% of people who are digitally excluded in the UK are over the age of 65 and we have learned during the pandemic that there are a lot of simple ways to get and stay connected."

"This really is an exciting opportunity for the local online community to help older people to connect online and to improve their quality of life. We want to explore the digital landscape and include as many people as we can. With modern communication there are so many ways we can interact with friends and families all across the globe."

If you would like to come to a session, or know somebody that does and want more information email Shaun Blezard on shaun.blezard@ageukbarrow.org.uk or call Age UK: 07565204401.
