A SHIPYARD worker heading for singing stardom has released a new single with the help of the producer behind Foals and Florence and the Machine.

Phil Hampson, from Barrow, has released a new single today under the pseudonym 'Gumshoe'.

The 27-year-old, who lives in Ulverston, has been involved in music for over a decade, playing at Radio 1's Big Weekend with his former band Audio Conspiracy.

The band went on to become Haarts before Mr Hampson decided to focus on solo ventures - writing, recording and producing all his own music.

"Song-writing and recording has always been something which has come naturally to me," he said.

"I enjoy song-writing in my spare time.

"The best way for me it to let it happen naturally- it never quite turns out the way I had planned it."

Mr Hampson describes his music genre as in the 'indie, alternative region', but also distinct in its own way.

He said: "When I'm recording, I can feel the influences from other genres like indie and R&B.

"I'm definitely more influenced by songwriters and producers than bands."

Mr Hampson's single 'Sayonara' is officially out on all streaming platforms from today, with his eagerly anticipated LP, Positive Sinking in the pipeline.

In creating his LP, Mr Hampson worked alongside renowned producers Gavin Monaghan, Bryan Wilson, Dan Carey and Brett Shaw, who previously worked with pop superstar Lady Gaga and indie band Foals.

Mr Hampson said: "I work in BAE which I love, but I love music too. As long as I find a balance between the two, it's great. I would like to give music my full attention at some point in the future.

"A real music milestone for me would be performing on Jools Holland or headlining Glastonbury - that would be the absolute pinnacle."
