CUMBRIA Trading Standards has warned the public about a supermarket giveaway scam.
The warning comes after reports of fraudsters impersonating supermarkets and emailing customers telling them they have ‘won’ a giveaway prize.
Cumbria Trading Standards revealed that Action Fraud, the national fraud and cyber crime reporting centre, has received more than 500 reports of the scam this week.
A spokesman from Cumbria Trading Standards said: “Fraudsters are at it again with supermarket giveaway scams.
“This time, they’re sending FAKE Sainsbury’s emails. Action Fraud has received over 500 reports this week.
“If you receive a suspicious email, you can report it by forwarding to report@phishing.gov.uk.”
