A crash sparked a warning from residents to other motorists about severe black ice on roads between Askam and Dalton.

Police were called to Broughton Road in Dalton after a Ford Kuga collided with two parked cars and a wall at about 7am yesterday morning.

The driver received no serious injuries and did not need to go to hospital, according to officers.

Drivers took to social media to warn others of the large amount of black ice covering the area's roads.

A yellow weather warning from the Met Office was in place for snow for the majority of Cumbria yesterday.

The warning was effective from 11am until just before midnight.

This week's icy conditions have caused several incidents, with public figures urging drivers to be cautious.

On Monday, the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for ice in the county.

The same morning Roger Exley, station manager at Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, advised drivers to "drive carefully" after he attended an incident where a car had turned over due to ice the night before.

The driver had a lucky escape after they were freed from the car by firefighters from Millom and Broughton, who had to remove the front windscreen.

They were assessed by paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service on scene and luckily received no injuries from the collision.

There are currently no weather warnings issued in Cumbria for today.
