‘Poor parking will not be tolerated in Barrow’ – that was the message from a new document presented to Barrow Council's executive committee.
The document – ‘Guidance for the enforcement and cancellation of penalty charge notices’ – was put together by Michael Otto, Barrow Borough Council's car parks and admin services manager.
The refreshed rules, which were voted through, reminded councillors: “Not to have a formal parking enforcement policy in place at the council would leave the council open to challenges over consistency and fairness.”
Some of the things drivers can be fined for included being parked in a loading bay in restricted hours without loading, being parked for longer than permitted, and being parked in a pay and display car park without clearly showing two valid tickets when required.
All the above have a 10 minute grace period to allow the driver to take action, before action is taken against them.
Other rules where only a five minute, or a zero minute grace period is given, can be found at www.barrowbc.gov.uk
