WORKMEN from Electricity North West are working to return power to homes on Victoria Avenue and Oxford Street.
Homes in the area lost power at 9am.
A Victoria Avenue resident said: “I am not sure what has happened but my electricity went off at around 9:00 this morning and hasn’t come back on since.
“It is a bit of a pain as I am working from home.”
Another resident said: “We have heard from neighbours that there was a small explosion earlier this morning.
“There was supposedly water firing out of the drain onto the road.”
Engineers are working swiftly to fix the problem.
Electricity North West engineer said: “We will close Victoria Avenue for a couple of hours to sort out the repairs.
“We will be working on the cabling as that is where the problem is.
“We will look to fix the fault and restore power to the nearby homes as soon as we can.”
