BARROW Borough Council is urging the public to exercise caution after receiving reports of an unknown door step caller.
The council said people needed to take precautions before allowing people to enter their home.
"We have been made aware of a man entering the home of an elderly tenant saying he was from the council," said a spokesman.
"Housing officers (and contractors) always carry photo ID and visits are by appointment only.
"If you're uncertain, call us 01229 876578."
Since the beginning of the Covid outbreak, reports of scams have increased as people are less able to access help and advice due to lockdown.
