A WOMAN who was struck in the face by her ex-boyfriend has nightmares about the assault, a court heard.

Mark Reynolds hit ex-girlfriend Chloe Heyworth after trying to punch her current partner Ryan Ferguson following an argument on Walney.

South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court was told Reynolds, of Vulcan Road, Barrow, went to Ms Heyworth's house on July 22 last year.

In the act of trying to strike Mr Ferguson, he hit her instead which caused bruising to her eye and cheek, the court heard.

The 23-year-old was said to be angry during the row, which led to him causing damage to Mr Ferguson’s car as he left the property.

“Chloe has said that she suffers from anxiety and depression for some time which has been strained by this incident,” said Rachel Ottley, prosecuting.

“She said she is scared in her own home as she knows he could come back. And she is struggling to sleep as she is having nightmares about this.

“Mr Ferguson said it is not the first time there has been an altercation with Mr Reynolds.

“After being arrested, the defendant sent a message via Facebook to Mr Ferguson of a threatening nature.”

The damage to the vehicle is estimated to be up to the value of £300.

Reynolds pleaded guilty to charges of assault, criminal damage and sending an offensive message via social media.

Tristan Roberts, mitigating, said Mr Reynolds' actions were as a result of frustration.

“He was regretful of his actions and he appreciated that his behaviour was not appropriate," he said

Mr Roberts said Reynolds had not been in contact with the complainants since the incident and was positive about the idea of behavioural orders when it was discussed.

Reynolds was given a community order which involves a 30-day rehabilitation programme. He must partake in the Building Better Relationships programme and is confined to a curfew at his brother’s address at Buxton Street for 12 weeks, meaning he has to remain at home between 8pm and 6am.

The district judge ordered Reynolds to pay £100 to both Ms Heyworth for her injuries and to Mr Ferguson for the damage to his car.
