COPELAND Council has commissioned stunning video footage encouraging visitors to the Lake District coast - once it is safe to travel.

The videos capture picturesque scenes from along the coastline and it’ is hoped local businesses will use them in their marketing to bring visitors back.

The videos are accompanied by a set of incredible still pictures of this beautiful part of the world, and the suite of materials has been funded by the Connecting Cumbria’s Hidden Coast project.

Copeland Council’s coastal programme officer Eric Barker said: “We really want people to share these videos and images far and wide, particularly if they are a business reliant on visitors.

“We want people to know that, once it’s safe to travel again, there’s an oasis of calm at this side of the lake district – big skies, ruggedly beautiful beaches, iconic landscapes and acres of wide open spaces.

“These videos really capture that, and until we can travel again, they allow people to sit back, immerse themselves in our landscapes and plan a future visit.

"We hope this will be part of a hearty post-Covid recovery for Copeland and the Lake District Coast. We are the perfect destination for anyone looking to escape the crowds. In addition to the tranquillity and open space, there is plenty of adventure: you can go canyoning and climbing, visit historic attractions, enjoy watersports, or gallop along the beach on horseback. Also, in coming months there will be the launch of our coastal art trail and a new long-distance challenge event along the coast.”

Cumbria Tourism will also be making the video available to tourism and hospitality businesses to help support their recovery when they are able to reopen.

The videos – there are 30-second, 60-second and two-minute versions – were created by Aspect Film and Video. Places featured include Waberthwaite, Ennerdale, Ravenglass, Silecroft, St Bees, Hodbarrow, Wasdale, Whitehaven, Eskdale, Muncaster and Drigg

The photographs were taken by Sam Scales.

The videos can be viewed on Copeland Council’s YouTube channel.
